Power is a corrupting force, it can turn reasonable people into monsters. Have you ever noticed how a seemingly reasonable person can go mad with power in the silliest of roles? That’s what happened to the necromancers of Fellhollow.
At first they were mages, of varying skill. Some were scholars of the arcane. Others priests in training. But each of them was obsessed with the mystery of the dead. They would learn secrets in strange places. In strange whispers on the wind, in ancient tomes stolen from the mainland. Some even learned of the necromantic arts in their dreams.
They had sought to command the dead, but now they have become them. Their powers turned only to spreading their affliction, the last vestiges of their souls trying to claim some semblance of meaning when there is none left for them to take.
