Recently, the team from the upcoming Survival MMO Dune Awakening has popped up with an official TikTok account. The team are using the platform to give small tidbits of information about the game. The video was shared online through other platforms by Funcom too.

What is Dune Awakening?

Dune Awakening is an open world MMO game set in Arrakis. The dangerous desert planet that is key to the story told within the Dune universe. This was the opening question thrown out by Funcom’s Joel Bylos in one clip.

He goes on to mention that both Funcom and Legendary Pictures have been working together to ensure the Survival MMO Dune Awakening stays true to the IP. This makes a lot sense considering Legendary Pictures brought Dune to the big screens. As a result, this helps build the visuals from the movie straight into the massive game world!

It was something to be wondered, if the developers would’ve taken the approach of visuals similar to “Dune: Spice Wars”, however, it seems to not be the case.

While the film influences some of the visual setting, Funcom make it clear that their focal point is the survival strategies created under these visuals – the harsh world. Since Arrakis is a full desert planet, rough and dry, ripe with politics, faction wars and valuable items – dying is ensured while ways to survive are just as guaranteed.

Water will of course play a crucial role in the gaming experience alongside things such as shelter. Oh, and of course – don’t anger the sand worms.
