Store Update 1.40.0 for ARC Raiders just went live and it opens the first half of a two-part event. The headline addition is Phantom Targets, a signal-hunting event that continues with the 1.42 Update on August 18.

What is in Store Update 1.40.0

The 1.40.0 patch is a store and event update rather than a full content season. It pairs a new limited-time event with fresh cosmetics and a cross-game promotion.

Here is the short version of what landed and what is queued for later this month.

VersionDateWhat it adds
1.40.0August 4, 2026Phantom Targets event (part one), Volare outfit in black and yellow
1.42August 18, 2026Phantom Targets project part two, Tick Hunter Set on all platforms

The split release means the event is designed to be played in two stages. You can start the first stage now and return when part two arrives.

The Phantom Targets event explained

Phantom Targets tasks you with repairing faulty antennas to triangulate a set of mysterious signals across the map. The second stage of the Project arrives with the 1.42 Update on August 18. Full reward tables and the exact item requirements for the later stage are TBC until that patch goes live.

Why this event matters: signal-based Projects reward map knowledge and consistent play over raw combat wins. That makes preparation more valuable than usual, since you want the required parts ready before you commit to the antenna repairs.

Because the requirements span two updates, keeping a running list of what you still need saves repeat trips. That is where a tracker earns its place.

Tracking Phantom Targets items with the Needed Items tracker

We have updated our Needed Items tracker to include the Phantom Targets Project, so the parts tied to the event now appear alongside your quests, workshop upgrades, and blueprints. You can log in, authorize with Embark, and sync your current inventory to see exactly what is left to collect.

The tracker lets you hide collected items and build custom lists, which keeps the event separate from your longer-term goals. This is the fastest way to avoid scrapping a component you actually need for an antenna repair.

Example Scenario: You load in on August 4 and want to start Phantom Targets without wasting a run. You open the Needed Items tracker, sync your account, filter to the Phantom Targets Project, and see which parts you already hold, so your first raid targets only the gaps.

Example Scenario: It is August 18 and part two has just unlocked. You resync the tracker, the new requirements populate under the same Project, and you can compare them against your stash before heading out rather than guessing mid-raid.

What is a Cargo Elevator?

One of the quests that you get given from Phantom Targets is to Upgrade Cargo Elevator Antennas. To locate the Cargo Elevator Antenna, head to a normal Extraction Elevator you would have used to extract from rounds in the past. Just go on top of them and you should see the Antenna.

How to Upgrade the Cargo Elevator

To upgrade the Cargo Elevator:

  1. Head to a Cargo Elevator and climb to the top to find the antenna prompt
  2. Hold the interact button until the progress bar fills
  3. Check your quest log to confirm it. The bar can complete without an obvious confirmation, so don’t get thrown off if nothing looks finished

You can knock all of this out in a single raid by dropping into a map that has three Cargo Elevator extractions, such as Dam Battlegrounds or Spaceport, and hitting all three points before you leave. If you would rather take it slow, you can also do them across separate raids – it makes no difference to the Project.

While you are out there, stock up on Pop Triggers, Wasp Drivers, and Leap Pulse Units, since you will need those for the next step of Phantom Targets.

New cosmetics: Volare variants and the Tick Hunter Set

The update adds two new colour variants for the Volare outfit, in black and yellow. These join the existing Volare options in the store.

The larger cosmetic drop is the Tick Hunter Set, available to wishlist on Steam now and launching August 18 across all platforms. The bundle is themed around the Tick enemy and includes cosmetics plus a chunk of currency.

Pricing for the bundle and the Volare variants is set in the in-game store, so check the store tab for the current cost in your region. We do not list a price here to avoid quoting a figure that shifts by platform or currency.

Embark Summer Celebration: the Azimuth outfit

The update ties into a wider Embark Summer Celebration that spans the studio’s titles. Playing three hours of ARC Raiders earns you the Azimuth outfit in THE FINALS, Embark’s separate free-to-play shooter.

This is a cross-game reward, so the outfit lands in THE FINALS rather than in ARC Raiders itself. You still earn it through ARC Raiders playtime, which makes it an easy pickup if you already play both.

Example Scenario: You mainly play ARC Raiders but keep THE FINALS installed. You put in three hours of raids during the celebration window, then log into THE FINALS to find the Azimuth outfit unlocked, with no extra objectives to chase.

Known issues and fixes

The development team has acknowledged two active problems in the 1.40.0 window. Neither is fully resolved yet, so treat the notes below as in-progress rather than patched.

The confirmed issues are:

  • Stomp through walls:Queen and Matriarch stomp damage has been penetrating walls from excessive distances, and a fix is in development.
  • PC launch errors: Certain PC players are hitting launch error codes, which the team is investigating.

If you are running into the stomp bug, keep extra distance and avoid hugging thin cover near a Queen or Matriarch until the fix ships. For the launch errors, a standard verify of game files is a reasonable first step while the investigation continues.

Frequently asked questions

When does the Phantom Targets event start?

The first stage is live now with Store Update 1.40.0 on August 4, 2026. The second stage arrives with the 1.42 Update on August 18, 2026.

What items do I need for Phantom Targets?

The parts tied to the Project are listed in the Needed Items tracker, which syncs to your account so you see your own remaining requirements. Specific reward tables for the second stage are TBC until the 1.42 update goes live.

How do I get the Azimuth outfit?

Play three hours of ARC Raiders during the Embark Summer Celebration. The Azimuth outfit then unlocks in THE FINALS, not in ARC Raiders.

  • A Tick Trophy backpack charm
  • A Spider Tattoo face style
  • 2,400 Raider Tokens

It launches on all platforms on August 18 and can be wishlisted on Steam now.

Are the new Volare variants free?

The update adds black and yellow Volare variants to the store, and pricing is shown in the in-game store rather than in the patch notes. Check the store tab for the current cost in your region.
